Academic Writing with Style: Creating Texts as Clear as they are Complex (online)
The art of academic writing in English involves presenting complicated research and ideas with clarity and precision. This workshop supports participants in cultivating awareness of structures and stylistic flourishes, along with grammatical and cultural conventions, that increase the appeal and authority of academic texts. Participants will increase their knowledge of and experience with the following:
- values and conventions of academic writing in English in order to achieve a simultaneously elevated and accessible style
- storytelling and other structural options
- textual analysis to recognize, determine, and emulate admired patterns
- common errors in English and how to avoid them
Participants should be at a C1 or higher level in English.
Target group: doctoral candidates and Master’s students
Date: 24 June from 9 am – 1 pm
Venue: Zoom (link will be sent with registration confirmation)

Trainer: Shira Richman directs the Writing Centre at FAU, having previously served in the same function at a technical university in Colorado. Her Bachelor of Arts and Master of Fine Arts are both in English with a focus on writing. She is from Seattle, Washington, has worked as an editor, writer, and writing teacher for over a decade.
